Building Service Worker

Lu’ma Native BCH Society is seeking to fill two Building Service Worker positions on a Full-Time basis at our supportive housing programs for the DAY shift; Monday to Friday: 8:30am until 5:00pm.

 Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the supportive housing programs located in Vancouver and North Vancouver. 

 Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Maintain floors; vacuuming, washing, stripping, waxing, mopping and/or shampooing using various power and hand cleaning equipment;

·        Maintain cleanliness of toilets, shower rooms, kitchen and laundry rooms;

·        Assist with residents’ laundry and suites as needed;

·        Collects and disposes of refuse and maintains clean refuse areas;

·        Dust, wipe and polish windows, and other fixtures and furniture; perform spot cleaning as required;

·        Maintain the cleanliness of the immediate grounds, including sweeping the front sidewalk and walkways;

·        Check stairs routinely and clean as needed;

·        Arrange furniture for special events;

·        Maintain various logs, janitorial supplies and other records.

·        May assist in taking inventory.

·        Minor maintenance and other duties as may be assigned by the Program Manager or Director of Supportive Housing.

·        Perform additional duties as requested and/or required.

 Job Skills & Abilities:

·        WHMIS certificate

·        Physical ability to carry out heavy cleaning and ability to lift to 23 kg (50 lbs.);

·        Ability to operate heavy industrial grade cleaning equipment;

·        General maintenance skills;

·        Demonstrated ability to be organized and carry out work with independence, and the ability to work cooperatively and effectively under general supervision;

·        Ability to work effectively with program staff, community partners and residents, including being non-judgmental in trying situations;

·        Ability to give and receive constructive criticism;

·        Thorough knowledge of community and building issues; and understanding of standards of maintenance, CoV Bylaws, WorkSafe BC processes, the Residential Tenancy Act and other applicable regulatory requirements.

 Remuneration and Hours:

·        Full Time position, Tuesday to Saturday; 8:30am until 5:00pm, 8.5 hours per day with a half hour unpaid lunch break.

·        Wage is $28.61 per hour; plus a generous Benefits package, RRSP match to 3.5%; Statutory and Paid holidays (Article 10 of the Collective), Vacation and other paid leaves will be awarded on a pro rata basis.
