Casual Tenant Support Worker
Lu’ma Native BCH Housing Society is seeking to fill the position of Tenant Support Worker on a Casual On Call basis at our Supportive Housing sites located in Vancouver and North Vancouver for All Shifts: 7:30am until 4:00pm, 3:30pm until 12:00am, and 11:30pm until 8:00am.
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Tenant Support Worker provides non-judgmental support, advocacy and resource information to residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Familiarizes new residents with the various program sites including the physical environments and guidelines for living communally and works to facilitate positive relationships between residents;
Provides information regarding options and alternatives including information about income assistance, legal services, health and mental wellness issues, drug and alcohol services, housing and other resources as requested;
Provides one-to-one supports to residents
Participates in supporting residents to meet their goals and objectives;
Maintains open, honest and direct communication with residents and former residents;
Provides group support, including facilitation of conflict resolution between residents and groups of residents;
Responds to building emergencies.
Qualifications/Skills & Abilities:
A degree, diploma or certificate in a related subject and/or relevant skill-based training;
Minimum one-year experience working as a front-line support worker with people who have complex needs and who are struggling with poverty and homelessness;
Must be open to working with people who are struggling with substance use and/or mental & spiritual wellness;
Must understand and be comfortable working within a Harm Reduction framework;
Ability to work effectively with program staff, community partners and residents, including being non-judgmental in trying situations;
Ability to work under pressure and manage stresses and crisis is required;
A valid Occupational First Aid level 1, Overdose Prevention, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe level 1 and WHMIS certificate is required;
All positions are subject to a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records review
Hours and Remuneration:
Casual position, 8.5 hours per day with a half hour unpaid lunch. Shifts are: 7:30am until 4:00pm; 3:30 pm until 12:00 am; and 11:30pm until 8:00am the following day (Overnight awake shift).
Wage is $28.61 per hour plus 18% in lieu of Statutory and Paid Holidays as per Article 8 in the Collective Agreement, Annual Vacation Pay, Leaves of Absence (Article 10), Pension and Benefits. The hourly rate inclusive of in lieu is $33.76.
