Cultural Coordinator

Lu’ma Native BCH Housing Society is seeking to fill the position of Cultural Coordinator on a Permanent Full-Time basis. This position is Monday to Friday, 8:30am until 5:00pm, with some flexibility to meet the cultural support needs of the community members we serve.

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Housing Operations or their designate, the Cultural Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the consistent cultural program development and delivery of culturally relevant resources and teachings across the supportive housing portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities:

-Develop and implement culturally relevant programming of events for all supportive housing sites;

-Facilitate culturally relevant programming on -site, weekly, at all supportive housing sites;

-Develop a monthly calendar of events across the supportive housing portfolio for each site;

-Assist the Cultural Outreach Workers with cultural supports and teachings;

-Facilitate and engage in cultural ceremonies with residents, for example: healing circles, talking circles, smudging, and sweats;  

-Support the resolution of conflict with community members living in supportive housing programs through advocacy and ceremony from an Indigenous lens;

-Create and maintain a resource binder of culturally relevant resources within the community for supportive housing programs to utilize;

-Ensure strong inter-agency relationships with other Indigenous based organizations and service providers to ensure seamless referrals;

-Provide a consistent conduit of feedback and input from those attending programs to program management in order to ensure programming is adequately meeting the needs of community members;

-As this is a newly created position, it is expected that the duties and responsibilities will shift and evolve to meet the needs of the organization and the community we serve.

Qualifications/Skills & Abilities:

-Lived experience that is relatable to the Indigenous community members;

-Extensive knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices;

-Experience facilitating cultural ceremonies;

-Strong Indigenous community ties;

-Knowledge of, and relationships with, organizations that serve the Indigenous community;

-Knowledge of and supportive of anti-oppressive practice and harm reduction;

-Strong inter-personal skills;

-Ability to manage a budget and engage in fiscally responsible practices;

-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;

-Valid BC Class 5 or higher BC Driver’s License, with access to a reliable vehicle;

-Minimum of 1-year experience working in or alongside supportive housing programs.

Hours and Remuneration:

Permanent Full-Time position. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm; (8.5 hours with a .5 unpaid break) Paid 40 hours per week with some flexibility to work varied hours to meet the needs of the community members we serve.

Salary is $81831 per annum plus Statutory holidays. Regular Full-Time employees are enrolled into the generous Employer paid Benefits package and Pension plan after a 3-month disqualification period. Vacation is earned at 6% of gross earnings and accessible after 1 year of employment. Sick and other Paid Leaves awarded on a pro rata basis.
