About the Tenant Support Worker Role

Lu’ma Native BCH Housing Society is seeking to hire Tenant Support Workers on a Casual-On Call basis at our supportive housing sites. Must be willing to work Saturdays, Sundays and Statutory Holidays. Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Tenant Support Worker provides non-judgmental support, advocacy and resource information to residents. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Familiarize new residents with the various program sites including the physical environments and guidelines for living communally. 

  • Understand program information and direct resources to residents including but not limit to income assistance, legal services, health and mental wellness issues, drug and alcohol services, housing. 

  • Advocate for residents with external agencies and services. 

  • Conduct resident wellness checks, arrange medical appointments, and accompany residents as required. 

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to residents to meet their goals and objectives and facilitate conflict resolution between residents. 

  • Maintains open, honest and direct communication with residents and former residents; and work to facilitate position relationships between residents. 

  • Respond to room/building emergencies as needed. 

 

Qualifications 

Require: 

  • A degree, diploma or certificate in a related subject and/or relevant skill-based training. 

  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or equivalent). 

  • WHMIS.

  • Food Safe Level 1 (or equivalent). 

  • Overdoes Prevention. 

  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention/MANDT. 

  • Mental Health First Aid. 

  • Naloxone. 

  • Minimum 1 year experience working as a frontline support worker with people who have complex needs and struggle with poverty and homelessness. 

  • Open to work with people with issues of substance use and/or mental wellness. 

  • Understand and be comfortable working within a Harm Reduction framework. 

  • Ability to work effectively with program staff, community partners and residents, including being non-judgmental in trying situations. 

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stresses and crisis. 

  • All positions are subject to a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record review

  • Casual position rate of pay is $28.61 plus 18% in lieu of benefits and stat pay ($33.76 per hour inclusive of in lieu amount).  

  • Vacation, sick leave are awarded on a pro rata basis.  

  • Shifts are 8.5 hours which includes a half-hour unpaid break.  

  • Unionized workplace.
